Asked Questions
What is IMT?
Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) is a non-invasive, drug-free healing
modality that is based on clinical and scientific research. It is
implemented gently with human hands and has yielded dramatic results
for people with a wide variety of ailments. IMT is based on a total
body diagnostic and treatment approach. (For more information on What
is IMT?, click
here.)
What do I need to bring to my initial
evaluation?
1. When you schedule your first appointment
at CenterIMT Atlanta, you will be sent a comprehensive packet of
information that will include paperwork that you will need to fill
out. You should bring this paperwork to your first appointment.
In some circumstances, you may not receive this paperwork in advance
(occasionally this is because there was not enough time between
scheduling and the date of your evaluation). In this case, you want
to arrive 30 minutes early to your first appointment so that you
have the time to fill out this paperwork before your evaluation.
2. Georgia law states that in order for
our Physical Therapists to treat patients following the initial
evaluation, we must have a Physical Therapy referral. A referral
can be obtained from any of the following sources:
· Medical/Surgical physicians (M.D.)
· Chiropractors (D.C.)
· Osteopathic physicians (D.O.)
Do you bill personal insurance companies?
CenterIMT Atlanta is a cash-based facility. We do not bill individual
insurance companies; however, once we receive the Physical Therapy
referral, we will provide an invoice for your treatment that includes
the information most insurance companies require.
Will my insurance company cover
my treatment session?
All insurance companies are different. If you are concerned with reimbursement,
we recommend that you contact your insurance company and inquire if
they cover Physical Therapy, what your deductible is, and any other
information that you may need to know.
How much does a visit to CenterIMT
Atlanta cost?
CenterIMT Atlanta charges $140.00 per hour of a treatment session.
It is our policy to collect payment on the day service is rendered.
Patients are financially and legally responsible for charges incurred.
How long is a treatment session?
Each treatment session varies upon the individual and his/her scheduling
needs. CenterIMT Atlanta has a two-hour minimum for an initial evaluation
and a one-hour minimum for all therapy sessions after the initial
evaluation.
What methods of payment does CenterIMT
Atlanta accept?
CenterIMT Atlanta accepts cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American
Express.
Will this treatment help my diagnosis?
At CenterIMT, we do not focus on the label when we are evaluating
a client. Every client receives a thorough assessment. A diagnosis
can be very helpful in the development of a rehabilitation program.
In addition to the diagnosis, a problem list will be identified during
the evaluation. This problem list will include more then the diagnosis.
The treatment that the client receives will be focused on facilitating
recovery from the problem list.
How long will it take until I feel
better?
That question can be better answered after your initial assessment.
The length of therapy is dependent on the severity and chronicity
of the dysfunction and your specific goals for rehabilitation.
Whom should I schedule with for
my treatment session?
All of our therapists are skilled in IMT and have taken specific courses
that are necessary to assess and treat using the IMT approach. Often,
the therapist who you schedule with for your initial evaluation will
be your primary therapist. This person will oversee your course of
treatment and will help to develop a team of therapists for your rehabilitation.
This team of therapists will be skilled in attaining results specific
to your dysfunction. These therapists will work together to help bring
you to optimal functioning.
What if I only want to see one therapist?
Our experience has shown that a client will benefit from a team approach,
as therapists bring their own areas of expertise and insights to your
recovery process.
What is the procedure for scheduling
future appointments?
We suggest scheduling your appointments in advance in order to meet
your scheduling needs. Periodically, scheduling appointments may be
difficult because of demand, but we will always strive to meet your
needs.
I am concerned my child may not
be able to tolerate a long treatment session.
When treating a child, we often bring in a TV and VCR with movies
for the child to choose from. We recommend that you bring any favorite
videos, toys or books they may care for during the session.
Will I be able to see Dr. Sharon
Giammatteo or Dr. Tom Giammatteo?
During your treatment session, Sharon and Tom, as well as other leaders
in the field of IMT, will be available for expert consultation. They
will play a role in developing your treatment plan and coordinating
your treatment. Sharon and Tom are physically present during ‘CenterIMT
Intensives’. During those sessions, they can provide immediate
technical support to all therapists for all clients.
What is a ‘CenterIMT Intensive’?
‘CenterIMT Intensives’ are led by Dr. Sharon Giammatteo
and Dr. Tom Giammatteo and include many highly trained IMT practitioners
from around the world. During these Intensives, Sharon and Tom are

developing rehabilitation programs for CenterIMT clients. Generally,
during these weeks, the clinic transforms into an ‘open-room’
setting where many patients and therapists work in one room. Private
rooms are reserved mostly for young children (who require TV’s).
The benefit of collaboration in this open-room setting is remarkable.

Will I receive a nutritional consultation
involving supplement intervention and dietary recommendations?
Part of your overall IMT consult will be your nutritional consult.
This consult will involve supplement intervention and dietary/lifestyle
recommendations. Over the years, we have discovered that nutrition
plays a very important role in healing of the body. If the body does
not get adequate nutrition, healing is delayed. Results from IMT can
be augmented with supplements and dietary intervention. Occasionally,
we feel that nutritional intervention would be more beneficial after
some IMT has been initiated. In this case, the nutritional consult
will be performed at a later date.
Am I obligated to take the recommended
supplements?
You are not obligated to take the recommended supplements. However,
omitting any section of your plan may be less effective and less efficient
for your overall healing process. When a nutritional consult is performed,
supplements are usually recommended as a “package”. If
you choose not to take some of the supplements, please specifically
discuss this with your primary IMT therapist.
